When the ancient traditions and the contemporaneity meet

A new song is finished and we are really enthusiastic about it, mainly because is part of our traditional and historical inheritance.

Păpăruga represent an ancient pagan ritual from the Balkan region. Some ethnographers have said that this ritual exist before the Roman Empire. Wow, this is something to hold on to!

When this ritual was made? Well, in times of great drought, a pure girl, dressed in clothes made by leaves and flowers, sang this verses and danced through the streets of the village to bring rain to the land, so that plants and trees can grow again.  She stopped at every house, where the hosts sprinkle water on her. She was also accompanied by the people of the village, who dance and shout on the music.

Before to go further with the cool and interesting info about this song, you can listen it. Aaa, and off course, you can free download it 🙂

Now, that you have heard our interpretation 🙂 and thank you for listening it, we can go forward with the story of this mysterious ritual.

According to some researchers, Păpăruga also spelled Doda, Dudulya and Didilya is a Slavic goddess of rain, and the wife of the supreme god Perun. Who guess what?  Is the god of thunder.

Slavs believed that when Dodola milks her heavenly cows, the clouds, it rains on earth. Each spring Dodola is said to fly over woods and fields, and spread vernal greenery, decorating the trees with blossoms.

Thank you for reading until the end and we hope you will enjoy listening Păpăruga as much as we did recording it!

Do not forget, is free to download it!

Happy days and peace, everyone!

New music experiences with Toutefois.

Music track 2

After almost 2 months of both quality studio time and peaceful relaxation, we finally finished our second track that we’re really enthusiastic about. This is something new for us. For this one we have experimented a lot and tried cool new things, from new ways of composition to ways of living differently, during the entire creation part of the Gaya Tree.

But, first things first. As we have told you in the About us page, here, on this blog, you will find content about music, that is our highest expression. Joyful or sorrow, the music will always reflect us, two human beings, two souls like any of you.

What we intend to do? Immersing new electronic elements into acoustic music and, also, we will try to offer a piece of soul, a grain of liveliness, to the electronic music. We know that, maybe, this porpoise of us may sound to idealistic or unrealistic, but is our duty to try it, and go all the way.

Electronic music sounds better with a …

Every day events, as always, break all the quite corners of our minds. Ideas float all over and often we seek a peaceful environment. So, at times, we try to put our minds into the silence. It is really hard to that, but music was always our little helper. When a busy day strike through, Dalv Olan take his guitar and sing along varies melodies that he improvises on spot. This is the moment when everything starts. I listen, trying to write some lyrics or to sing along with him, murmuring some invented melodies.

But this time was different. Dalv was experimenting with some synths at his desktop. Listening from the other room, I was fascinated. I could hear some ambient sounds along with some strings and a bansuri (a flute of South Asia made from a single hollow shaft of bamboo), and added field recorded elements, such as night owls and crickets for a nice and mellow soundscape. All this beautiful and new fragments of melodies were supported by roots reggae rhythms. What? Yes. They are really cool 🙂 . Murmuring as always, sometimes even without thinking, I remembered a mantra. Yes, a mantra. The mantra is called Gayatry mantra (the mother of the Vedas), the foremost mantra in Hinduism and Hindu beliefs, inspires wisdom.

Here are the lyrics and the translation:

Oh God! Thou art the Giver of Life,

Remover of pain and sorrow,

The Bestower of happiness,

Oh! Creator of the Universe,

May we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light,

May Thou guide our intellect in the right direction.

This is how it all started, listen to the result. We say that Gaia Tree is about history, the history of the pure light and creation, so all you need to do, in order to understand it, is to immerse yourself into this experimental rhythm and melody and discover its essence.
